Best Work Samples

The following written works are samples of, in my opinion, work that best represents my growth as a student in the University of Luxembourg. While they tackle a variety of topics, these samples also function as a means to track my progress as a learner and an individual.

This essay was an important milestone for my progress as a student - it was in this course that I learned many of the fundamentals required to write an academic essay, and was able to reuse the knowledge that I was taught not only in this essay, but also in my own work at the Language Centre. Furthermore, it was the first essay in which I had freedom over the topic and research, which led to being a good introduction for further research that I had to do for my final thesis.

As I reflected upon my previously written academic work, the other work that stood out was not one submitted for a specific course, but a motivation letter submitted for the global exchange, in hopes of being accepted into one of the two universities in Tokyo, Japan. At the time, I felt the need to dedicate everything that I had learned into this letter in order to increase my chances of being accepted - something I would not have been able to do without the assistance of Professor Prum.

The final featured written work, which I felt was the culmination of all my present academic knowledge, is the bachelor thesis itself. I believe this shows my personal growth as a learner on a grand scale, with a topic that I researched very passionately - sparking my interest to do further research in the field.

This thesis deals with the topic of English language learning in Japan and Luxembourg - two countries that would normally not be compared, but had a surprising amount of similarities in this regard, as well as differences. The research was done by interviewing both students and members of teaching staff in both countries, and the data obtained from said interviewees resulted in a research that never felt uninteresting. I am very grateful to my supervisor, Professor Weber, for assisting me throughout the course of writing, as well as inspiring me to continue researching similar topics in this field.
